Medicare Cost Report Training and Consulting: Do you need it?
What is the usefulness of Medicare cost report training and consulting?
As you may know, one of the primary services we offer is Medicare/Medicaid cost report training and consulting. Even if you have completed a cost report previously, here are sample areas where we provide additional insight.
1. Medicare bad debts. These lowly cost sharing amounts are often forgotten (or lost in a database), but are you gaining all the benefits from a thorough review of your provider’s policies and procedures?
2. Direct Medical Education. Are you correctly reporting your cap? Are your interns and residents rotating to other facilities? You may be able to receive additional credit if your I&Rs are rotating to nonprovider settings. See 42 C.F.R. 413.78(g).
(For cost reporting periods beginning on or after July 1, 2010, the time residents spend in nonprovider settings such as freestanding clinics, nursing homes, and physicians’ offices in connection with approved programs may be included in determining the number of FTE residents in the calculation of a hospital’s resident count if the following conditions are met…
3. Indirect Medical Education. Same principles apply as direct medical education (DME).
